Week 9

Dear Parents,

I hope you had a lovely weekend enjoying the beautiful winter weather! Only a few weeks to go and what a term we have had so far! I'm so impressed with the incredible personal growth the students have had personally and academically over the last six months.

Cross Country 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️
Just a reminder that Cross Country is taking place this Thursday 17th of June. Students are to wear their faction shirt and are encouraged to wear zinc and bring teddies. We will make our way down to the oval at 9 am for a 9:15am start, however we will be the second year group running the cross country as it will begin with Year 3's, then Year 1's and then Year 2's, etc.

Providing the weather stays good, we will stay out to watch some of the other races. Parents are most welcome to join us to watch, please note that the bottom gravel car park is unavailable.

Merit Award Winner 🌟✨
Congratulations to Cruz Cross who was our week 8 Merit Award winner. You are a Year One  Super Star Cruz - we are so proud of you and we are lucky to have you in our 1C team!

Homework 📚
Homework was due on Friday 11th of June. If your child did not bring in their RED Reading folder and their homework book it makes it difficult for us to set up our final fortnight and follow up who is missing their next set.  Please remember that homework is optional but we do highly recommend ensuring your child reads aloud to you every night for ten minutes as research shows this has the best growth and retention rate for reading acquisition .  We are so impressed with the amazing growth every child has demonstrated in our recent reading rate assessments. Thank you so much to the parents who are doing that little bit extra reading at home and with their books and the fluency grids!!!
Please also note that your child's reading fluency grid and spelling words list aligns with words in our class InitiaLit english lessons and these focus spelling sounds and tricky words are tested in class every week.  Please feel free to ask any questions you may have about homework or the Initialit english program in Year One.

Extended Holidays
If you are planning on escaping early or having some time away next term, please visit the lovely Fran or Kaya in the office to fill out an extended leave form. This would be greatly appreciated.

Character Strength

Dear Parents, currently at OLC we are focusing on modeling and observing different character strengths. This week we are looking for people who demonstrate Curiosity. Can you encourage your child to show the following?

Warm Regards
Miss Christie
