Rebecca Cool at our School

 Hello Parents

In visual art this term we have been focusing on the artist Rebecca Cool. We were lucky enough today to have Rebecca Cool come visit the Year Ones. Rebecca Cool is a Western Australian artist and illustrator. Rebecca lives in a rural property in Margaret River. Rebeeca has studied at the Claremont School of Fine Art and has her work shown at a number of exhibitions. Here are some of Rebeccas paintings....

Rebecca is happiest when she is painting and creating her charming, colourful and playful compositions. Her work features a combination of acrylic paint and fabric collage and her strong, colourful works have a naive charm reminiscent of European folk art.

Rebecca has illustrated a series of books that have won many awards including the book Isabella's Garden, Can I come too Eliza Lou? and For all the Creatures. Today the children were fortunate enough to listen to Rebecca Cool read the story Isabella's Garden by Glenda Millard. Isabella's Garden is about the growth and continual change that goes on in a much loved garden. The children learn't about the process Rebecca Cool went through when illustrating the book.

Here is some pictures of Rebecca Cool talking to the children. Rebecca Cool brought in special original canvas paintings for the children to look at.

Rebecca also spoke to the children about how she was once asked to draw a sneeze.. and how drawing a sneeze is quite tricky. The children got to have a go at drawing a sneeze with Rebecca Cool. It was amazing what the children came up with and they can keep that drawing that they did with Rebecca. Make sure to have a look when the children come home :)

The children are in the process of making their very own Rebecca Cool style art. We will be painting and collaging our work next week. Stay tuned.

What a very COOL day the Year Ones had today!!!!

Warm Regards
Miss Christie
