Year One Pictures

 Hello everyone 

This week marks "week one" for both myself and your children in Year 1C. We survived a huge week of orientation and getting to know each other. I am so impressed how well the children have settled in, they have done an AMAZING job!

If you do not already know, I come from Perth and did my degree at Notre Dame in Fremantle, graduating with a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education. Most of my childhood holidays were spent at our family property in Yallingup Siding with friends, horses and nature. 

As a Teacher, I feel so lucky to be given this opportunity to assist your child through the next year of their education in the great south west where I have spent so much of my life.

  Hello Parents  First of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to come see me this week for parent interviews. It has been lovely seeing you all and talking about your child's progress in Year 1. This week 1C have been very busy little bees doing lots of fun and exciting learning.  Mathematics In Mathematics this week we have been focusing on Subtraction. We have been learning how to use a number line to solve subtraction problems by "thinking BIG and counting back".  The children have been doing so well learning this new strategy, you can see some pictures of the children putting this strategy into practice with Subtraction Maths Bingo and using number lines to solve subtraction problems. Excursion and a few reminders

Dear Parents  Some information for next week! Excursion We are excited to go on our annual cultural excursion with the Year 1 students having the opportunity to learn about the deep connection the Wadandi people have to the Cape to Cape region.  Josh from Koomal dreaming will take us on a Kaya tour around the lighthouse and teach us about the landscape through the eyes and knowledge of an indigenous custodian.  We are looking forward to the experience and are hoping for two parent helpers from each class who are free for the day so please email me if you are (unfortunately we will only be able to accomodate two so first in...).  We will be leaving school around 9.30 and returning about 12.00 next Tuesday 16th November.   Seesaw Please make sure you have notifications set to appear on your Seesaw app so that you are aware of each update and get a great reminder to check out the small snippet of amazing work examples by your child.  You are welcome to 'l...

Dear Parents  I cannot believe how quickly this term has gone. I am so proud of the children and how they have been working in IC! I hope you had a lovely weekend and you have been enjoying some of these warm sunny days :)  Just a few notices LEARNING In Initialit reading we have been learning about reading with fluency, verbs and using the suffix 'ed' to show it has already happened.  In reading groups we have been working on sounding out loud tricky words, chunking longer words into syllables and asking someone if we don't know what a word means and can't imagine anything.  We know how important it is to always use our two reading brains - one says the words and sentences and the other imagines what is happening and plays a movie or TV show in our head.  It is important that both happen for us to be 'real readers'.  We are beginning a new writing genre unit, learning about procedural texts - instructions, recipes and how-to are all examples of procedure t...
