Year 1C OLC

  Dear Parents  We have had a jam packed week in Year 1C!!! Just a few reminders for the week coming.  Homework due this week and new set for Week 3/4 Term 2  Just a friendly reminder that homework is due tomorrow - please bring them to school to help us review and set up for next fortnight.   If you have any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to contact me. Also a request that you remember to complete the reading log each night after your child has read aloud for ten minutes to help us know whether to change books or not and how your child is progessing with their nightly reading.  Spelling and fluency grids (these will look a little different to last term now we have begun the InitiaLit1 program but remain the same process as last term being a timed read with accuracy and time recorded) will continue to be glued into your child's scrapbook each fortnight.  These words are for your child to practise reading and spelling on a piece of pap...

Hello Parents I hope you have had a lovely holiday break and you have enjoyed spending quality time with your children. Hopefully you got to relax and eat lots of chocolate and hot cross buns over Easter (I know I certainly did). I look forward to hearing about how you and your family spent your break.  We are starting News on Tuesday Week 1, having a break in Week 2 due to the short week and then resuming Week 3. This roster will continue until the end of Term 2. Each child has been allocated a news day. They will get a news bag with a prompt chart which will be given out once a fortnight. There are topic suggestions on the news chart if your child is stuck, otherwise they are welcome to bring in an item of interest. We do encourage - Pictures  -crafts made at home  -Photos of holidays or special visitors (these can be emailed to me if you wish) -Natural things of interest, such as birds nests, butterfly cocoons or items from other countries always create a strong talkin...

  Hello Parents  First of all, I want to thank you for taking the time to come see me this week for parent interviews. It has been lovely seeing you all and talking about your child's progress in Year 1. This week 1C have been very busy little bees doing lots of fun and exciting learning.  Mathematics In Mathematics this week we have been focusing on Subtraction. We have been learning how to use a number line to solve subtraction problems by "thinking BIG and counting back".  The children have been doing so well learning this new strategy, you can see some pictures of the children putting this strategy into practice with Subtraction Maths Bingo and using number lines to solve subtraction problems. We definitely have lots of Mathematicians in 1C.  Science The students have been investigating sound in Science.   Hello Parents  Just a reminder next week we will be travelling to the pool in Busselton for swimming lessons.  We will leave school at about 9:30 and return around 1 as we will be having double lessons with a break in between.  As such please ensure that you child has a packed recess and crunch-n-sip next week as we will need to take these with us to the pool. Please take the time to check that your child has what they need and that it is all clearly labelled; bathers towel goggles change of underwear thongs  to were on the bus and to the pool Rashie Sports Uniform Please include underwear in this as there is always a pair left over that belongs to no one! Your child can wear their bathers underneath their sports uniform if they are comfortable but we will also give time for them to get changed.  Hello Parents  We were lucky enough to have Mr Lee and some lovely Year 6 helpers do Science with us on Friday. The children were "Professors" and got to wear special coats and learn all about Worm Farms.  Worm Farms are a great way to educate children about recycling. Mr Lee taught some valuable lessons about sustainability and the importance of even the smallest creatures in our Ecosystem. Instead of the children throwing their banana peels in the bin they learnt that they can be turned into worm food/compost, not even waste needs to be wasted. The "Professors" then got into small groups and got to explore and investigate miniature worm farms.  They had so much fun being Scientists!  Dear Parents,  I hope you had a fabulous long weekend enjoying the beautiful weather and spending time with family.  Learning  We've been busy mathematicians continuing to collect data each day by reading a question, classifying, sorting and tallying our information. Our daily maths lessons have been focusing on the concept that numbers can be composed and decomposed, in other words each total number can be made up of parts.  We are learning that this is what addition is and that we can count the total number from the start, count on from the big number and we are learning that our friends of ten (and twenty) facts and doubles addition facts can help us to be even faster and better mathematicians.   Our reading sessions have been focusing on learning new tricky words and recognising parts of words that aren't spelled or read like many other English words such as want, many, where and what.  We have also been learning about some common digraphs wh...

 Hello Parents  I am so proud of how much focus and persistence with a positive attitude our 1C team are showing when learning new things. In just a few weeks we are already growing our confidence to problem solve and continuing to build our independence to complete our work, try out new things and even suggest and share our own ideas and other ways we can show what we know and have learnt.    Thank you to all who have made the time to watch our parent information introduction video last week and read through the attached slides in the previous post. I hope it was a great way to find out the 'nitty gritty' of  both our Year One learning and life in our class.
